What is e-Learning

Hello again,

In my first post I wrote that I consider it difficult to find a clear definition of e-learning and that I was hoping to figure it out in the seminar session. Unfortunately we did not have the time to talk about it since our blogs and the ways to use and create them were keeping us. Now we are supposed to find a definition, we can approve, on our one. But I guess sharing them in our blogs and the wiki (you can find it on the blogroll) will help.

Maybe we can come up with a definiton which includes all our thoughts. I am just afraid that might lead to such a blurry definition you usely find on e-Learning. Great example on that problem are the definitions on the wiki. First one says “eLearning is a general term“, next ” eLearning is a catch-all term that covers a wide range” and the third “improve the quality of learning by facilitating access to resources and services“. These quotes illustrate the lack of a clear definition in the discourse. Pretty much everything can be interpretated as e-Learning as far as it has “something to do with media”.
Following the definitions e-Learning might as well be ppt-presentation of a teacher held in front of the class. This is using electronic devices but is actually nothing else than (maybe well done) upfront-teaching.

I detected this wiki on the web, which I found useful on the topic. It shows the variety of e-Learning but is also lacking on a clear definition. In fact they admit there is no commenly accepted definition on e-Learning. wiki

Well, I guess, I will keep on looking for a definition I can accept. So far I have not run into one yet, but I will not give up searching.
I hope I can find some ideas on the other blogs or from your comments. So please help :)

Thanks Ralf for your comment. I put some tags on the last post now. I thought until now it is all concerning the same topic and not providing the need for tags. But I guess you are rigt, that it will be useful soon.
